Turquoise as a sky field

Sky, worn as a field. Turquoise is the sit in play among the blues this season — an opaque blue-green that arrives already as weather, gold or silver as the climate that agrees to hold a pane. Not lapis’s night field. Not chrysoprase’s cool apple. Not malachite’s written bands. You meet the hue first. The metal is only the hold.

A Stockholm gold ring is the climate in one face. A round of sky, then smaller skies around it — opaque blue already a field, gold as the chair. You would meet that weather before you named a century. The stone is not filling in for a sapphire. It is already the temperature: a sky worn as a color field the metal has agreed to keep.

That is the gem sit in play now. Color treated as air. A stone worn as an opaque sky, not as a flash asked to compete. Houses are wearing that blue-green as fields this season — panes of weather, gold as the hold.

A gilt-silver brooch keeps the same appetite as a weather of several panes. Rounds and drops of pale sky, already fields, metal as a thin drawn hold. You would feel those opaques before you counted a drop. One pane would have been a single hour. Seven already make a climate. This season’s turquoise does that work as a color field: a hue that has already agreed to be sky, worn as itself.
