Topaz as a cool blue light

A cool blue light. Topaz is the blue that arrives already bright — a hue with the temperature of daylight, the mount only a chair. Sapphire keeps a deep pane, a night you look into. Aquamarine keeps a water, pale and transparent, a sea color worn as a field. Topaz keeps a light. You meet the brightness first.

A gold ring of about 1850 holds that light in one oval. A sea-blue topaz, faceted, a coronet of gold as the only rim. You would see the brightness before you named a bequest. The stone is not filling in for a night. It is not a water. It is a cool blue that reads as light, worn as a field the gold has agreed to keep.

Color, this season, is being worn as a brightness you can look into. A stone as daylight cooled down. A high, clear weather, with metal as the chair. The gem that carries it is topaz.

One round of the light, then three blues together

A silver ring keeps the same light as one round brilliant. A cool blue topaz already the face, small stones as a quieter weather at the shoulders, silver as the hold. You would feel that brightness before you named a bench. One stone is a single hour of daylight. This one already makes a climate. The blue sits high and clear. A sapphire center would have gone darker and stayed a pane. An aquamarine would have stayed water. This blue stays a light.

A second silver ring spends that light in company. Three blue topazes — a paler stone at the center, two deeper blues beside it — the brightness still the climate, the metal only the chair between them. You would meet the hue before you counted the stones. One topaz would have been enough light. Three keep the same temperature, a cool blue worn as a small sky on the finger.

You would wear that sky as a quiet brightness. The silver has already agreed to hold it. Sapphire would still be the deep pane in the next room. Aquamarine would still be the water. This one stays a cool blue you meet as light.

That is the season sit. Topaz as a cool blue light. A ring whose stone is already the brightness. A round brilliant that keeps one hour of that blue. A ring that spends the hue in three stones — not a night, not a water. A light you wear.
